For anyone who loves a good day of golf, The Classic proved to be another fun opportunity raise money for a good cause while enjoying a day on the links.
The tournament, Blount Memorial Foundation’s annual fundraiser held at Egwani Farms in Rockford, raised more than $45,000. The event was held in two rounds, a morning and an afternoon flight, on Monday, Sept. 28.
“It’s a good event, and the money that’s raised benefits Foundation programs, including some of our cancer patients with needs they have as they go through treatment,” Blount Memorial Hospital public relations and marketing director Jennie Bounds said. “Part of the money raised will be used in our ‘Greatest Needs Fund.’ The money also goes to different projects the Blount Memorial Foundation works to support, especially our medically under-served and uninsured.”
The date for next year’s event has already been set, Sept. 27, 2010, so supporters can mark their calendars. Bounds said The Classic has a lot of support in community from people who always mark their calendars to come for the competition and fellowship. “Lots of people know it’s a fun event. It’s a Monday you look forward to as well as knowing what the money goes to support,” she said.
