More than 60 golfers turned out to raise more than $6,000 to support Sheriff James Berrong in his upcoming election during a tournament at Green Meadow Country Club on Oct. 2.
“It went great,” Berrong said. “We had a good time and a lot of fellowship. I got to talk to people on a personal level, which I sometimes don’t get to do. It was a lot of fun for everybody, and I had a great time.”
Organizer Steve Stilts said there were 17 foursomes, and the event raised $6,000. The team of Rick Ford, Eric Harrell, Leslie Cate and Robbie Esch won the tournament. “Everyone wanted to get together and show their appreciation for what Jimbo and his office has done for Blount County and help him raise money for his re-election campaign coming up,” said Stilts.
