The audience never left their seats outside McArthur Pavilion on the campus of Maryville College -- except to stand and applaud the Appalachian Ballet Company dancers and the Streamliners band.
Still, they were transported to a smorgasbord of cities through the dance of the ballet company and the music of the band -- from Chicago to Paris to Chattanooga.
Embracing a traveling theme with musical favorites like “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “New York, New York,” the annual performance showcased the talented company of dancers and the musical prowess of the Streamliners, directed by Mike Spirko.
Amy Moore Morton once again showed why she receives honors as a choreographer. The dances were entertaining and inspiring, as the audience quickly forgot the young girls were dancing barefoot and in bluejeans on the grass at McArthur Pavilion.
A fund-raising dinner, plates of grilled chicken and vegetables with wine provided by Aubrey’s began the festive evening. The weather was beautiful, and the evening fun for the 125-plus who attended.
Next up for the Appalachian Ballet Company is their signature performance of “The Nutcracker,” Dec. 5-6 at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. School matinees are Dec. 3-4, and teachers should make reservations by Nov. 21. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Nov. 16.
