Alcoa High School’s Lindy McGuire, Meaghan Marsh and Grant Daugherty each punched their tickets to the Class A/AA State Golf Championships in qualifying play at Three Ridges on Monday.

McGuire distanced herself from the second-place finisher to win the Region 2 A/AA tournament by 12 strokes. McGuire, a junior, completed the course with a winning score of 2-over par 74. With Marsh adding a 98, the Lady Tornadoes captured the school’s first-ever girls region crown to go with a first-ever district title won last week.

The race for the medalist spot in the boys field proved a bit more heated, with Daugherty finishing with a 75 to tie for fourth and qualify for state. Chase McCown of Pigeon Forge finished two strokes beneath Daugherty to claim the region championship.

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association A/AA state golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13-14 at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
