Football season for two of Blount’s teams -- William Blount and Heritage -- is in the books, while two others -- Alcoa and Maryville -- are continuing on with playoffs. This year’s Blount Today Sports Radio covered all the county teams with their broadcasts over WLHR 97.9 every Friday -- and a few Thursday -- nights.
A new addition this year was five special Thursday night events called Pep Rally on the Patio, held at different restaurants in Blount County.
Each of the four high schools had at least one pep rally, and the excitement was a great prelude to the games. Heritage and William Blount brought their bands to their events, and all four schools had their cheerleaders and spirit teams on board to entertain the crowds. Heritage even did “football trivia” and gave a prize for the Best Dressed Fan.
The Pep Rally on the Patio evenings were broadcast on WLHR radio by the Blount Today Sports Radio crew of Marty Millsaps, Joe Lambert, Dave Bennett and Heath “The Intern” Dunkel. Some broadcasts had live interviews with coaches, head cheerleaders and even a soccer player who came by after a victory on a different kind of “football” field.
Featured here are photographs from the last pep rally at Aubrey’s, which featured both William Blount Governors and the Maryville Rebels before their meeting the next night.
