About 1,500 Blount County Medicare enrollees with Medicare Part D Prescription Drug coverage have not applied for the Low Income Subsidy through the Social Security Administration.
This according to statistics from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). The Low Income Subsidy is also called “extra help” and helps pay Medicare Part D drug plan premiums and co-pays.
Anyone not receiving extra help with a gross monthly income below $1,353 for an individual or $1,821 for a married couple living together may qualify. A person’s resources must be limited to $12,510 for an individual or $25,010 for a married couple. Resources include such things as bank accounts, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, but do not include a person’s house or car.
