Garden Shop, Out of Eden celebrate changing seasons

So what does the fall season look like at area garden shops? Evidently it will be just as beautiful as the mountains that smile down on East Tennessee. While spring promises new buds and new life, fall adds its own splashes of vibrant color to the landscape, with the promise of holiday colors not far behind.

Two of Blount County’s shops that specialize in gardens, lawns and landscapes celebrated the fall and upcoming winter season recently with open houses and treats for their customers. The Garden Shop in Townsend kept the excitement that the new shop has generated since opening this spring going with an open house to give customers a head-start on fall and winter plantings, and Out of Eden celebrated its 10th anniversary by continuing its innovative approach to a garden retail center.

Out of Eden Garden Center opened in August of 1999, the passion of a “farmer” who moved his family from Ohio to Maryville. Gary and Julie Bridenbaugh created a 7-acre garden shop and landscape company on Hwy. 411 South, and continue to creatively mold their business to meet customers’ needs. They began their 10th year by being named one of “Today’s Garden Center’s” magazines Revolutionary 100 centers. They had their anniversary party in September. With the holidays around the corner, Out of Eden is now definitely putting on its Christmas celebration attire. They will be carrying trees for the holidays and can offer advice on which “type” of Christmas tree is best for your family.

The Garden Shop celebrated its first fall as the air turned crisp in Townsend, although its owner is no novice to the business. The Garden Shop opened this spring, with former Pope’s owner Sara Proffitt Berry at the helm. Her fall open house gave customers not only good deals for their fall plantings, but the benefit of her advice for both the seasoned and newcomers to a love of digging in the dirt.

In addition, The Garden Shop has plenty for those whose idea of gardening is sprinkling a little water on the fern with the shops clever array of garden gifts and home items. As the days get colder and the holidays move front and center. The Garden Shop, too, is offering holiday items for its customers.

The Garden Shop is located in Trillium Cove on East Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend at 137 Trillium Way (look for the sunflower). Phone is 865-738-3261.
