The Community Food Connection is holding its final grocery store food drive of the year this weekend at the Alcoa Food City.

“This is our last grocery store drive until spring,” Community Food Connection special projects director Larry Ladd said. “We won’t have another one until late March.”

The can drive is from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Food City on Hall Road.

“More than 50 realtors have stepped up and helped us out and are handing out fliers, or picking up and delivering food to the warehouse,” Ladd said.

Ladd said that the Community Food Connection served the most people it has ever served in a single month during the month of October. “We have reached another crescendo. In October there were 5,357 that we fed, including 1,315 children,” he said.

Ladd said that in February of 2008 Community Food Connection served 2,248 people. The Community Food Connection is located at 1402 East Broadway Ave., Maryville.

“We had 122 new families” Ladd said. “Even though people drop off, we still have had that many new families”
