The 2009 Tennessee Geographic Bee took place on Friday, April 3, at Tennessee State University’s Avon Williams (downtown) campus. At the close of the morning competitions, Tucker Riddick, a student at Alcoa Middle School, had correctly answered all the questions in the eight preliminary rounds.
From 100 students, 10 students with the top 10 scores advanced to the final rounds.
Alcoa Midlde School was well-represented as Tucker, the only 6th grader, earned a spot in the winner’s circle and finished in a tie for 6th place in the state. He received a trophy as well as several other gifts.
Joseph Peterson, an 8th grader, from First Assembly Christian in Cordova, Tenn., took home the 1st place trophy and will advance to the National Bee May 19-20 in Washington, DC.
