Parks and rec craft fairs are hit with shoppers

Maryville Alcoa Blount County Parks and Recreation organized two craft fairs recently at Everett Recreation Center and at Foothills Mall to celebrate the spring season and all the creativity it inspires.

On March 21, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., shoppers gathered at Everett Center to shop the wares of 58 vendors of arts, crafts, and comestibles. Crafters came primarily from East Tennessee, with some regional vendors in attendance as well. As they browsed among displays of flowers, children’s toys, home goods and cosmetics, the shoppers were rewarded with door prizes and giveaways.

On Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, Parks and Rec sponsored a spring arts and crafts show at Foothills Mall. Crafters from across the Southeast attended. They brought with them original crafts and products. Browsing shoppers bought hand-made jewelry, wood crafts, ceramics, puppets, original artwork, and even stone potpourri.

Some vendors even worked on their products during the show to demonstrate their crafting techniques to passers-by. Before being accepted into the Arts and Crafts show, vendors had to be approved by a jury panel.
