Help postal carriers stamp out hunger on May 9

The National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the United States Postal Service, Campbell’s Soup, United Way of America and America’s Second Harvest, will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned soup, canned fruit, canned vegetables, cereal and rice on Saturday, May 9, to help families in need in the community.

The public can help by placing food donations at their mailboxes on May 9 before 9 a.m. Please do not include any glass or perishable items.

Maryville Post Office collections will go to Community Food Connection, and Alcoa Post Office collections will go to Chilhowee Baptist Center.

Local postal services, United Way of Blount County, Community Food Connection and Chilhowee Baptist Center are working together to make sure that this year’s food drive is a huge success.

Last year, local regional letter carriers collected about 40,000 pounds of food and hope to collect even more this year.

To volunteer for this event or for more information, please contact Frank Rutherford of Community Food Connection at 983-0788 or Horace Brown of Chilhowee Baptist Center at 981-2992.
