More than 900 works of art by Blount County elementary and middle school students were displayed recently in a juried art show held by the Blount County School System. The individual works were chosen by the county’s 10 elementary and middle school art teachers, all of whom were the driving forces behind this competition, Elementary Supervisor David Murrell said.
The art teachers, several of whom work in multiple schools, chose the pieces to be submitted to the county-wide competition and found outside artists to judge the students works. All 13 elementary schools and four middle schools in the county participated in the art show, which was held on the evening of April 23 in the boardroom of the Blount County Schools Central Office.
Murrell said the school system relishes chances like this one to give students as many opportunities as possible to be recognized. Refreshments were served as participants, families and educators milled around the room looking at the submissions and the winning entries in each category.
All students with works in the show received participation certificates.
