Welcome home

House on the Hill open house showcases new facility

March 1 was a busy day for Ben Glascock, owner of the House on the Hill event facility in Maryville.

Glascock celebrated an open house for the business in the 100 years-plus house that was once home to his family. Vendors were on hand to serve guests who toured the facility and to show off their own products and services.

Glascock is marketing House on the Hill as the perfect place for anything from wedding receptions and showers to tailgate parties.

“We had over 200 people here, and now we are getting calls everyday. Things are picking up,” he said. “I was very satisfied with the turnout. All the vendors were great, and everyone seemed to enjoy meeting them.”

Glascock said his family’s two-story 3,500 square feet home at 827 W. Broadway is made of American Chestnut and has a beautiful twin stairway on the inside and a wide expansive porch that looks out over West Broadway.

Glascock said the House on the Hill has a wide appeal. “I think it’s the elegance and uniqueness of the home, and the fact that it is a home, so it has an at-home atmosphere while being very elegant,” he said. “It’s sort of like going back in time except, unfortunately, we don’t get to get younger.”

Of those showing interest in the new venue, Glascock said 60 percent of inquiries have been for weddings and receptions and about 40 percent of inquiries for bunches and showers.

“Everybody, almost to a person, comments on how beautiful the house is on the inside,” said Glascock of the open house. “It took their breath away.”

Special guest at the open house was Ruth Glascock, looking lovely in a lavender suit. Ruth is Ben’s mother, and said she was thrilled to see the homeplace looking so beautiful and being used for happy occasions.
