Leadership Blount, in partnership with Maryville College’s Center for Strong Communities, is spearheading an effort to bring a local spotlight to the national economic crisis by hosting its 6th Annual Leadership Summit.
Entitled “Finding the Silver Lining in an Economic Storm,” the Leadership Summit is scheduled for Friday, April 17, at First United Methodist Church in Maryville. It will feature United States Congressman Zach Wamp as the luncheon keynote speaker.
Congressman Wamp has represented Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional district in East Tennessee for the past 14 years. Wamp has served on the House Appropriations Committee for the past 11 years, which provides funding for activities including national defense, education, homeland security, crime and general government operations such as the administration of federal agencies. He currently serves as the top ranking Republican for the Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies, and the Energy and Water Subcommittee.
“Congressman Wamp will provide a unique national perspective on what is arguably the most challenging time in our history,” said Herb Handly, chairman of Leadership Blount.
A general breakfast session on the short- and long-term financial outlook of our economy will start the day, and along with the luncheon keynote address, plenary sessions will foster dialogue and help develop action plans to assist the local Blount County community during this economic recession. Plenary sessions will focus on business and industry, social services, healthcare access and retention, and tourism.
