Mary Blount chili supper draws a crowd

On Friday, Feb. 13, Mary Blount Elementary was anything but unlucky. About 125 supporters came to the school’s chili supper fundraiser, where they feasted on chili donated by local restaurants and bid on gift baskets in a silent auction.

Ten of Mary Blounts teachers competed in a chili cook-off, and the crowd dined on chili and other donated food and drink from Chili’s, Uno Chicago Grill, McAllisters, Texas Roadhouse, Aubreys, Panera, Kroger and Starbucks, all of which were involved in last year’s chili supper as well.

In between bowls of chili, bidders on the silent auction watched their bids on baskets created by teachers, the proceeds of which went directly to each teacher’s classroom. Many baskets were created with themes, including Springtime, Perfume and Spring Cleaning.

Mary Blount has been organizing annual fundraising chili suppers for at least the last seven years. The leaders of the school’s PTO responsible for this year’s success include Beth Petrie, Mary Anne Bock, Lisa Heaton and Holly Hatcher.
