Umbrellas, summer fashions highlight FAB’s Art on the Runway

Functionality met artistic design at the Fine Arts Blount Art on the Runway Fashion Show and Hand Painted Umbrella Auction on May 7 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

The fundraiser for FAB featured appetizers prepared by FAB members, the auction of 24 umbrellas that were handpainted by local artists and fashions from Boyd Thomas Clothing in Maryville and The Silk Purse in Knoxville. Marti Womac from Boyd Thomas and Judy Gardner from The Silk Purse described their fashion offerings as models paraded through the crowd to smiles and oohhhs.

The annual event helps fund FAB artistic and community projects as well as help with the FAB budget.

Door prizes and time to shop at The Silk Purse booth rounded out the evening.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said FAB president, Katie Kinney.

Highest dollar amount for an umbrella this year was $195 for Gloria Nelson’s “Historic Blount.”
