CBBC elects Proffitt new chairman

Citizens Bank of Blount County (CBBC) President and CEO, Joe Bruce, announced the election of John G. Proffitt as Chairman of the Board at the April 14, 2009 Board of Directors meeting. “CBBC continues to be guided by local leaders with sound, stable business credentials and strong ethics,” said Bruce.

Proffitt, newly retired as an appraiser with the Department of Transportation, has served on the Board since 1989. His father, the late Harry H. Proffitt, Jr., was a Board Member from 1976 until his death in 1989, also serving as Chairman of the Board. John Proffitt and his wife, Janet Isenberg Proffitt, attend New Providence Presbyterian Church. Spending the majority of his life in Blount County, he is an Alcoa High School graduate and received his BS in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Also elected to Board positions were Leon Shields as Vice Chairman and Jim Warren as Secretary. Gaynell Lawson was elected as Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. Shields is President of Leon Shields Insurance in Alcoa and has been a Board member since 1975. Warren, Board member since 1989, is a Senior Engineer with Bechtel National. Lawson was elected to the Board in 2007 and was an original employee of CBBC in 1973. She currently serves as the bank’s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
