Blount Memorial Weight Management Center registered dietitian Whitney Roberts now is certified as a diabetes educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.
To qualify to take the certification examination, Roberts had to have at least 1,000 hours of diabetes management teaching experience along with other professional practice experience requirements. To maintain certification, Roberts must complete 75 hours of continued education every five years.
A CDE credential demonstrates to people with diabetes a specialized knowledge that promotes quality of care for people with diabetes. Roberts is one of 15,000 diabetes educators who hold the CDE credential.
Roberts has been with Blount Memorial for two years and provides medical nutrition therapy and teaches group classes for diabetics. She also helps facilitate support groups for diabetic patients.
Roberts received a bachelor’s degree in human ecology with a concentration in food, nutrition and dietetics from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. She received a master’s degree in nutrition science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Roberts is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Knoxville District Dietetic Association.
