Friends and family gathered at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Saturday, July 18, for a surprise 75th birthday party for Peggy Campbell. Her five children, who came from Maryland, California, Texas, Illinois and Mississippi, gave the party in Peggy’s honor.
Children are Rod Campbell, Julia Karnes, Amy Campbell, Marty Fulford and Matt Campbell.
Peggy was born on Aug. 6, 1934, in Vanceburg, Ky. Peggy has been and continues to be committed to the under-served. She is currently involved with the Food Connection, Good Neighbors and is an advocate for the elderly. Campbell is also active with Blount County Republican Women, Our Lady of Fatima and the Red Hat club.
Among the guests at the party were Peggy’s best friend from her childhood, Fran Gulbrandson, who now lives in Anderson, S.C., and three dear friends who attended Ursuline Academy Catholic School of St. Martin.
“There were 16 girls in our class at Ursuline, and we all stayed close. Five of us all started there as fifth graders, and we were like sisters,” said Peggy. “It was wonderful to have my dear friends here.” Honoring Peggy with their attendance were Janet Jacewicz, Falls Church, Va.; Fran Hogan, Cincinnati; and Theresa Hummel, Lexington, N.C.
Peggy is married to William (Bill)R. Campbell, originally from Louisville, Tn. The Campbell’s moved to Maryville in 2003 after Bill served nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army. Peggy and Bill will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Aug. 23. They have 15 grandchildren.
