Alcoa schools get behind Springbrook Sprint triathlon

The Springbrook Sprint triathlon is scheduled for Aug. 8 at 8 a.m. at Springbrook pool in Alcoa, and Alcoa City Schools is getting behind the event to help promote the health of its students, teachers and staff.

The school system is registering three-person teams sprint under its banner. Alcoa City School students, teachers and staff can register their relay teams at www.RacedayEvents.net. Type your relay team name as “Alcoa Jazz Band” or any other Alcoa school team or club that you wish to designate. Alcoa Middle School is providing 30 volunteers to monitor each intersection of the 9-mile bicycle course, help to register new participants and prepare the food table.

Twenty additional volunteers are needed from 7 to 11 a.m. to help monitor each intersection of the 3-mile run course, put drinks in coolers with ice, remove timing chip ankle bands from races as they finish and pick up the Springbrook Pool picnic area and parking lot after the event. Student volunteers will receive community service hours. Remember to wear your Alcoa shirts.
