Memorial golf tournament helps fund Alcoa education

A full contingent of players gathered on Saturday, May 30, for the annual Tim Bledsoe Memorial Golf Tournament at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Rockford.

The event honors the memory of Tim Bledsoe, 1938-2006, a longtime supporter of Alcoa Schools. Bledsoe graduated from Alcoa High School in 1956. The tournament benefits the Alcoa City Schools Foundation and was originally organized by Loren Bledsoe, Tim Bledsoe and Herman Thompson.

The beautiful day began with lunch before the shotgun start at 12:30 for the four-man swat format tournament. Friends, education supporters, former coaches and player and a large contingent of Bledsoe family gathered to play, work and offer support for the tournament.

The tournament featured prizes for first, second and third place finishers in three flights, plus awards for closest-to-the-pin on all par three holes.

At last count, more than $16,000 had been raised at the tournament with money still being collected.
