Maryville College’s Environmental Action Team (EAT) has recently joined Keep Blount Beautiful’s “Adopt a Mile” program, pledging to keep Lamar Street and a portion of Court Street free of litter waste for the next three years.
As a participating organization, EAT has agreed to pick up litter along the adopted streets at least four times per year.
According to its mission statement, EAT strives, as a collective body and as individuals who value the welfare of the environment as a prerequisite to a fulfilling life, to apply environmentally conscious values to issues in the lives of students on the Maryville College campus.
Among EAT’s other programs is the yearly construction of a life-sized “box-fort” from cardboard boxes gathered from students moving in to dorms to raise awareness for campus recycling.
