On Tuesday, May 19, 2009, alumni of the Leadership Blount program attended a leadership program at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center called "Leadership Lessons from Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Past, Present, and Future."

The group started out with a bus tour Cades Cove in the early afternoon, followed by a reception at the Heritage Center and a dinner catered by Buddy's Barbecue. Finally, alumni and guests enjoyed a program featuring Bob Miller and Nancy Gray of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along with Dale Ditmanson, Superintendent of the National Park, and storyteller Charles Maynard, a regional council member of the National Parks Conservation Association and former executive director of the Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
