Vulcan wins community relations award

Vulcan Materials Company’s Maryville facility has won a national award for community relations from the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association, which presents the award to facilities whose “community involvement and support activities have enhanced the public’s perception of the aggregates industry in general and the public image of the individual producer’s aggregate operation in particular.”

Among the reasons for Vulcan’s win are the company’s leadership in the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, its sponsorship and participation in the Relay for Life, the Vulcan Cure Finders Sporting Clay Tournament, support of Second Harvest Food Bank, and membership on the Blount County Chamber Foundation Board.

Vulcan also supports United Way, the Maryville College scholarship program, the Blount County Education Foundation, the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, the Civic Arts Center, and multiple other community projects.

According to Stan Bass, President of Vulcan’s Midsouth Division, “Being active in the community, supporting good causes and doing our part is important to us. It’s nice to be recognized for it, but that is not why we do it.”
