Barbara Penland has been named the public relations and marketing director at Blount Memorial Hospital. She will be responsible for overseeing the hospital’s corporate identity and communication strategies with both internal and external audiences, while building and enhancing relationships with community and health-related partners.
Penland holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she most recently has served as president and CEO of Media South, which she founded in 1996. Under her direction, the company provided specialization in branding and corporate identity as well as custom Web site design and development. She also has served as president and owner of Penland Associates, which focused heavily on marketing corporate communication and training.
Penland is a graduate of the Leadership Knoxville Class of 2004 and currently is a member of the International Assoc. of Business Communicators, Knoxville Executive Women’s Assoc., E. Tennessee Historical Society and American Marketing Assoc.
