TennCare expands services for 160,000 members

AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare of Tennessee will expand its medical and behavioral health services to approximately 160,000 total Medicaid beneficiaries in East Tennessee on January 1, 2009. AmeriChoice currently serves about 95,500 TennCare members in the region.

The expansion is the result of a competitive bid process that took place this past year by the TennCare Bureau. AmeriChoice was one of two managed care organizations chosen to expand coverage in East Tennessee. The State’s new contract with the health plan has provisions to assure a smooth transition, particularly for TennCare enrollees currently receiving a course of treatment.

AmeriChoice has been active in East Tennessee since 1994, first as John Deere Health and then as AmeriChoice beginning in 2006. Nationally, AmeriChoice serves more than 2 million beneficiaries of government health care programs in 22 states and the District of Columbia.
