Medic plans ‘Cabin Fever’ blood drive

Medic Regional Blood Center is betting on cabin fever this time of year to help increase needed blood donations.

Give blood anytime between Feb. 2 and 11 for a chance to win a two nights stay at a cabin in Wear’s Valley. The cabin rental is good for Friday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 15.

To register, stop by any Medic blood drive and give a pint of blood.

“Our donations have been down and we hope a chance to win a free cabin rental will encourage people to come out and donate. This would be a great get-away for anyone; however, it also makes a great Valentine’s Day present!” states Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson.

Medic has two fixed site donor locations, 1601 Ailor Avenue near downtown, Knoxville, and 11000 Kingston Pike in Concord Square in Farragut near Pittsburg Paints. Medic also plans community blood drives:

Feb. 2, Big K-Mart, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Bloodmobile.

Feb. 5, Fairpark Health Care Center, 804 North Fifth Street, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Bloodmobile.

Feb. 6, Blount Memorial Hospital, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., inside Auditorium.

All donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more and have positive identification. Donors will receive a free t-shirt, cholesterol evaluation and a year’s credit towards Medic’s Family Blood Coverage Program. This program exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood collection fees at any U.S. hospital.

Medic is a non-profit organization dedicated to the safety of the community’s blood supply. Medic is the only supplier of blood for 21 counties and 28 area hospitals.
