A crowd packed the Ciao Deli in Te Market at Washington and High on Jan. 9 for what quickly became a twice a month event - the Ciao Deli Beer Tasting.
Ciao Deli owner Todd White said the event sold out within a couple days and staff had to turn people away. “Because of that we’re going to have it twice a month rather than once a month,” he said. “Everybody had a great time. People met new friends and tasted some great beer and had great hors d’oeuvres and, most of all, really, really good fellowship.”
White said the event was so much fun that he had hard time closing. “I had to ask them to leave. We started at 7:15, and it was pushing 10 o’clock we had to ask them to leave, so it was a blast,” he said.
The main activity for customers was trying new beer. “We have a selection of beers found no where else in the county and many beers most of our customers have never seen or tasted,” he said. “We have quite a few customers who are beer connoisseurs and many know a lot about beer, but most do not.”
White said the Ciao Deli Beer Club also gave customers the chance to get discounts on beer and cheeses and half price admission to beer tastings. “You don’t have to be a member of beer club to attend the tasting but most at the tasters were members of the beer club,” he said.
Beer tasting event admission is $20 for non-members and $10 for Ciao Beer Club members. The beer tastings at Ciao Deli are now twice a month on the second Friday and fourth Thursday of each month. The next one is Thursday, Jan. 22, and reservations are being taken now. For information and to register, call 865-980-7711.
