It truly paid to listen to Blount County High School football on Friday nights this past football season. Just ask Ken Bowling and Dalton Wheeler.
Bowling and Wheeler were the winners of the Blount Today Sports Radio season-end giveaway. Bowling won a mountain bike provided by Hummer of Knoxville which had a value of more than $500. Wheeler won a letterman’s jacket from Pokey’s, which also had a retail value of close to $500.
Listeners to the Airport Honda-Hummer and Saturn of Knoxville Game of the Week could qualify on the Blount Today website each week. Weekly winners were kept until the end of the season when the two grand prize winners were drawn.
“The timing could not have come at a better time,” said Wheeler of the letterman jacket. “I just got fitted for a jacket here at Pokey’s last week. I would like to thank Mr. Tinker and Pokey’s for this wonderful gift!”
Ken Bowling, who won the Hummer Mountain Bike said,” This entire football season has been a great experience. It is nice to have Blount County football to listen to every Friday night. This will be a great gift for my son, who is a senior at Alcoa and will attend Berea College next year and play baseball.”
Other giveaways took place each week with listeners calling in to win gift cards to Aubrey’s, Smoky Mountain Feed, East Tennessee Rewards, Swanks and Dynabody.
“I think by the end of the season we had given away close to $20k worth of goods and merchandise to over 70 different listeners. It was a lot of fun being able to cover football here in Blount County and doing the giveaways brought us closer to our listeners,” said Blount Today advertising directory Marty Millsaps who did play by play on the broadcasts.
Other members of the broadcasts team were Joe Lambert, color commentator; David Bennett, Tim Self, Heath Dunkel and Lauren Curbow.
