The 2008 Footloose in the Foothills holiday shopping extravaganza on Dec. 4 brought together vendors and shoppers for an evening shopping extravaganza. The community shopping event, in its second year, brought together vendors with seasonal and gift ideas for purchase. It is a fund raiser for Blount County Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services.
SCHAS director Judy Timbs said that the vendors were great, but the weather hindered attendance. The 2008 event didn’t quite reach the funds raised the first year.
“It was not like last year,” said Timbs. “I spoke with several people who said they saw several things they wanted to buy but they were afraid because of economic conditions. Our vendors were incredible.”
Timbs said they raised about $6,000 at the two venue event. “It is about $4,000 less than last year’s event,” she said.
Timbs said the Capitol Theater and Preservation Plaza were beautifully decorated and looked very festive.
Timbs said organizers are already in the planning stage for next year and are optimistic that the economy will be better and, “we’re already praying for no rain,” she said.
The shopping evening featured vendors in arts, crafts, jewelry, clothing and home parties. SCHAS is a non-profit organization that provides services to help seniors stay in their homes rather than go to nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
