Little River Watershed announces 2008 board

The Little River Watershed Association has announced its new board members for 2008. The seven appointees are Teresa Brinson, Shane Hair, Edward Harper, David Harrill, Dan Lawson, Tracy Luttrell, and Adrienne Schwarte.

The Little River Watershed Association is a 501 (c) 3 volunteer organization dedicated to educational efforts to preserve the Little River, the source for drinking water to more than 90,000 Blount County residents. Teresa J. Brinson, who recently relocated from Florida, is an accountant with Ingram, Overholt & Bean, P.C. She enjoys any kind of sporting activities and the outdoors. She resides in Maryville and has one adult son.

Shane Hair, an Electronics Plant Production Engineering Assistant Manager, has been employed with Denso Manufacturing in Tennessee since 1996. He and his wife, Myra, have two young children, Seth and Andrew. He is involved with the Maryville Children’s Academy Board, the Loudon County Education Foundation Board, and various volunteer projects throughout the Maryville and Blount County areas. He has also served as a Maryville Little League Manager and AYSO Soccer League Assistant Coach. He enjoys outside activities and trips to the mountains with his family.

Edward Harper, a North Carolina native, moved to Blount County in 1978 and has worked in Behavioral Health through the Blount Memorial Health System for 23 years. He has served on the Blount County Red Cross and Children’s Home boards and currently is active with Blount County United Way, Foothills Fall Festival, Big Read, among others. He enjoys the outdoors and especially likes to scuba in the Little River. Harper and his wife Ruth live in Maryville and have two children, Chad and Hannah.

David Harrill, a retired Operations Manager for the Office of Scientific and Technical Information at the Department of Energy, currently works as the Marketing Director for Information International Associates in Oak Ridge. Harrill served for several years on the Board of Directors for the Blount County Boys and Girls Club. He is an avid kayaker and fisherman on the lakes and rivers of East Tennessee. He and wife Laura reside in Maryville and have two adult children.

Daniel J. Lawson, a retired insurance agent and small business owner, currently serves as a charter member and President of Leadership Blount County and General Campaign Chair and President of United Way of Blount County. He has also served as Maryville-Alcoa Jaycee President and state Vice President, Maryville Kiwanis President, two-time Chair of the Blount County American Red Cross, and a charter member of the Foothill Striders. He is a lifetime member of the Great Smoky Mountains Association and served recently as a Board Chair. He is an avid hiker and runner and has volunteered in the National Park since 1993, primarily in the backcountry permit office. He also serves as a member of the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains Park Commission, appointed by the Governor in 2007. Lawson and his wife, Gaynell, are natives of Maryville.

Tracy Luttrell, a technology coordinator and technology teacher at Maryville Intermediate School, also coordinates the school’s Earth Flag program through Ijams Nature Center. Tracy lives in Maryville with her husband and two sons.

Adrienne Schwarte is an Assistant Professor of Art and Graphic Design at Maryville College, where she teaches courses on graphic design, digital photography, and sustainable design. Schwarte serves on the Board of Directors for Mane Support and is Co-Chair of the Maryville College Community Shares Drive. Schwarte resides in Maryville with her husband and two boisterous dogs.
