Sweet sounds of the dulcimers entertain visitors

Valley View Lodge was filled with the sweet sounds of mountain music on Sunday, Feb. 8, as the final day of the Townsend Winter Heritage Festival came to a close. Members of the Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club entertained with music for those gathered. Instruments included the lap dulcimer, hammered dulcimer and a marimbula. The crowd was invited to sing along with such tunes as “I’ll Fly Away” and other old-time favorites.

Nancy Basford is president of the dulcimer group. The club is “for everyone who likes dulcimers and people who play them.” Musicians include those who play the hammered dulcimer and the mountain lap or fretted dulcimer. It is a non-profit, educational organization with classes offered from beginners to advanced. The club meets the fourth Sunday of each month from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Second United Methodist Church, 1524 Western Ave., Knoxville.
