Squares, rounds and a Virginia reel keeps guests dancing at barn dinner

The heritage of entertainment, mountain-style, was celebrated at the Barn Event Center on Friday, Feb. 6, as Richard and Debbie Way hosted a barbecue dinner and barn dance as part of the Townsend Winter Heritage Festival.

Dinner included not only pulled pork, but barbecued chicken and all the trimmings, including cobbler and ice cream for dessert. The music of the Mumbillies kept the crowd entertained, whether when they were just playing softly or when the tables emptied for the dance floor. The caller took participants through a variety of dances, including round dancing, square dancing and the Virginia Reel.

The crowd was a good mixture of locals and visitors, as many came from other states to celebrate the winter festival in Townsend. Others were local residents ready for a break from the winter doldrums and “cabin fever.”
