Cemetery Stroll in Cades Cove offers lessons in family life

Families, residents and Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers shared the history of some of the families in the Cades Cove area in an unusual setting as part of the Winter Heritage Festival in Townsend. The Cemetery Stroll took visitors on a walk through cemeteries in the Cove, stopping along the way to hear stories about life in the Cove “back in the day…”

Visitors gathered at Primitive Baptist Church in Cades Cove where there was singing and family histories shared before the stroll through the cemeteries. The family cemeteries in Cades Cove were explained and stories and insight about each family and the customs of the cove were discussed.

The Cemetery Stroll was part of the many activities planned for the weekend of Feb. 5-8 as the Winter Heritage Festival enjoyed its third year as a planned activity.
