In its inaugural event, the “Ask me why I’m...” day took on many forms with one overall goal in mind: To raise awareness of the work of New Hope Children’s Advocacy while raising funds to support that work.
Tim Kumes came up with the idea and dreamed big initially -- wanting a walk/run/bike ride from Blount County to Nashville. While he may work on that idea for next year, the committee convinced him to keep it to a smaller scale this year. Tim settled for a two-day event that included a bike ride in Townsend and a grand finale walk in Blount County, while participants also racked up their own “miles” leading up the to finale by walking, riding, rowing, reading and a variety of other activities. Participants collected pledges based on what they were doing and wore their T-shirts to generate interest and questions about child abuse.
