About 400 people turned out for the annual turkey dinner at Chilhowee View Community Center on Nov. 7.
Member Lyda Plemons said the money raised at the turkey dinner at the center is used for repairs and upkeep. A total dollar amount raised wasn’t yet available.
“The turkey dinner is done each year at a set time,” said Plemons. “Volunteers have their duties that they do every year, but this year, there was a problem. They ran out of turkey! We served around 400.”
Plemons said the number of people carrying out their dinners was almost as many as those who ate at the community center. “That worked really well and helped with the seating capacity we needed,” she said. “It is just something the community anticipates, and it’s getting pretty widespread. They either come in or send for plates, with requests coming from all over Maryville.”
The Chilhowee View Community Center is located at 2204 Wilkinson Pike.
