A “beer sting” by the Alcoa Police Department failed, and officials couldn’t be happier.
On Friday evening, Nov. 27, Alcoa Police Department detectives utilized an underage youth to attempt to purchase beer and liquor from local businesses. This investigative technique is referred to as a “beer sting” and has been done periodically for many years.
None of the 25 businesses approached allowed the minor to buy beer or alcohol.
Alcoa Police Chief Ken Burge was happy the sting was a failure. “We are pleased to recognize these businesses and we appreciate the efforts of their employees,” he said.
The following businesses were congratulated by Chief Burge for “making the beer sting such a failure:” Pilot, Topside Road; Weigels, Topside Road; Topside Wine and Spirits; Gas Express Food Mart, BP/Aztex (Buddy’s Bar-B-Q); Lakemont BP; Courtyard Restaurant; El Sazon Mexican Restaurant; Mr. Gas, Alcoa Highway; E-Z Stop Exxon; Kenjo BP, across from Waffle House; Food Lion; On The Run Exxon, Hunt Road and Old Knoxville Highway; Ian’s Market; Mr. Gas/Texaco, Lincoln Road; CVS Pharmacy; Kroger; Food City; Walgreen’s; O’Charley’s Restaurant; Texas Roadhouse Restaurant; K&S Market; Green Meadow Wine and Spirits; Wal-Mart; Mr. Gas, Hunt Road and Louisville Road; Buffalo Wild Wings; Chili’s Restaurant and Applebee’s Restaurant.
