What’s glove got to do with it?

If you’re a softball middle infielder looking to land a college scholarship, it can mean everything.

Former Alcoa High School standout Anna Russell signed a National Letter of Intent recently to continue her career on the diamond at Roane State Community College next season. In Russell, the Lady Raiders are getting a sure glove at second base that’s as good as they come. In 32 games last season, Russell would be charged with only two errors.

Couple those glove skills with a superior work ethic, and Alcoa coach Paul Talley said he expects big things from Russell on the college level.

“She’s just the hardest working kid I’ve ever coached,” Talley said. “She’s the type of kid that’s going to be successful at something one day, whatever she chooses to do.”
