Wamp names Dunlap Blount County chair in campaign

Blount County Highway Superintendent Bill Dunlap will chair and organize congressman Zach Wamp’s gubernatorial campaign team in Blount County.

“Blount County is very important to me, so I am pleased and honored that Bill Dunlap has agreed to help lead my campaign effort here and to help us organize hundreds of other active volunteers and supporters,” Wamp said on Aug. 5. “We are taking our campaign to the people, so the experience, relationships, advice and counsel that Bill brings will be a huge help as we build the kind of local campaign team it is going to take to win here in Blount County.”

Dunlap, a native Blount Countian, has served as Blount County Highway Superintendent since 1994. Among many honors and achievements Dunlap has received throughout his career, he currently serves as the state president of the Tennessee County Services Association representing all officials in the state’s ninety-five counties. Dunlap and his wife, Judy, have two children, Allison and Shaun.

Wamp said he plans to work particularly hard to earn the support of voters in Blount County.

“Middle-class families and small businesses need a governor who connects with them and will work for them because he is one of them,” Wamp said. “I invite everyone in Blount County to join our campaign and help me as I listen and learn to local concerns, so I can continue to build our 20/20 Vision for Tennessee’s future and strongly lead as Tennessee’s next governor.”

According to a Wamp campaign press release, the candidate’s platform include creating better schools and universities, helping children and families be healthier, generating more high wage jobs and improving modern infrastructure with better roads, bridges and broadband.

Wamp has served the past 15 years as Tennessee’s 3rd congressional district representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Wamp and his wife, Kim, live in Chattanooga, and they have a son, Weston, a recent graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and a daughter, Coty, who is a student at UT Knoxville.
