Blount Chamber kicks off special membership drive

If your solution to surviving the recession is to cut costs and lay low, think again. Capitalizing on contacts and expanding your network can help grow a business in any economy.

With more than 30 networking events every year, the Blount Chamber of Commerce is a good starting point in expanding the reach for businesses of any size. In an effort to help business owners, the chamber is offering a $25 discount to new members through the month of August.

“There are countless opportunities to market and grow your business through the chamber,” says Chamber volunteer Boyce Smith of Wal-Mart. “With this incentive, we’re hoping to show new and existing businesses how the chamber is a business partner.”

In addition to monthly networking events and business programs, a membership in the Chamber offers more than $5,300 in benefits or return on investment. A chamber business membership extends chamber opportunities to all the business’ employees, who can then take advantage of seminars, focus groups and special events. In addition to providing valuable business tips and information, chamber programs enable employees and business owners to build helpful contacts.

“We work to be an effective marketing partner for our 1,350 members,” says Smith. “Chamber staff and volunteers only refer our members, and the Chamber office/Welcome Center gets a lot of traffic by phone, email and those who physically stop-by for specific information.”

The Chamber website also offers members exposure, business resources and referral opportunities. Plus, members can secure reasonably-priced advertising in chamber programs and publications.

“This Chamber is so open and inviting,” says Smith. “The membership offers lots of perks to both large and small business owners.”

Potential members can learn more about Chamber benefits and programs by visiting, or calling 865-273-1211.

Chamber board members as well as the staff at the chamber are working with businesses and individuals interested in becoming members, with special emphasis on the month of August. Information on contacting staff, including Julia Kyle, Executive Vice President of Membership, (865-273-1213, and specific board members who can provide information are available on the chamber website or by calling the chamber.
