Blount County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night for Rob Britt as the new Director of Schools.
In a special called meeting of the Blount County Board of Education, the seven-member board all named Britt as their choice to fill the position being left vacant by retiring Director of Schools Alvin Hord on June 30.
Britt is principal at Carpenters Middle School, where he has been since January 2001. He was assistant principal at William Blount High School from 1994 to 2000. Prior to that, he was the choral music teacher at William Blount.
Britt received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shenandoah University and Conservatory of Music. He has a Master of Music from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Education from Lincoln Memorial University.
Britt and his wife, Liz, have three children: Robbie, 16; Rachel, 13; and Reece, 6. All three attend Webb School of Knoxville where Liz is a music teacher.
The other finalist for the position were Dr. Jane Morton, Blount County's supervisor of grades 6-12; Dr. Steve Moser, coordinator of alternative programs at Everett Learning Opportunity Center; and Dr. B.J. Worthington, chief academic officer for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System in Clarksville.
