Chilhowee Reservoir recreation areas reopen

Alcoa Power Generating Inc. (APGI) recently reopened the Chilhowee Reservoir recreational areas that were closed during the Chilhowee Dam repair and reservoir drawdown. The boat ramps at Pear Tree, Calderwood Village, Tabcat Creek, Gravel Pile, Happy Valley and Abrams Creek are again open to the public.

Construction work on the dam is ongoing but is expected to be finished in April. Mt. Pleasant Road at Chilhowee Dam will remain closed until construction activities are complete.

During the drawdown, improvements were made to enhance fishing and boating experiences on the reservoir, such as the installation of artificial fish attractors to improve aquatic habitat. In addition, repairs and improvements were made to the boat ramps and pier at the Happy Valley and Tabcat boat access areas.

Chilhowee is a 1,734-acre reservoir located within Blount and Monroe Counties in East Tennessee along U.S. Highway 129. The reservoir was built in 1957 and is maintained by APGI.
