Knoxville illustrator and animator Joel Trussell has been consigned to give readers at Pellissippi State Technical Community College a better appreciation of some of the artistic aspects of the college’s 2008-09 Common Book, “Persepolis.”
Reading of the book—the story of author Marjane Satrapi’s childhood during the late 1970s and early 1980s in Iran—is part of Pellissippi State’s Common Academic Experience. The program, which entered its third year this semester, allows select classes to read, study and discuss a single book chosen by the faculty.
Trussell has contributed his skills to the History Channel, Disney and American Greetings. He also has directed music videos for Jakob Dylan and Morcheeba, and commercials for Esurance Auto Insurance and Nicorette nicotine gum.
The artist created the opening and closing sequences for Mike Judge’s “Animation Show” and recently completed his fourth animated segment for “Yo Gabba Gabba!” on Nickelodeon.
He will present his work to the student body at 11:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in the Goins Auditorium, located on the Pellissippi Campus on Hardin Valley Road. Prior to the presentation, he will lead a workshop for Drawing I students.
Trussell’s visit to the campus is free, and the public is invited to his presentation in Goins.
