Following Maryville College’s 20-17 victory over Centre College last weekend, the USA South Athletic Conference has awarded three Scots football players with league player of the week honors. Senior place-kicker Brad Daniel has been named the conference’s special teams player of the week.
The Tucker, Ga., native made a pair of field goals and added two extra points in the win that lifted the Scots to 1-1 on the season. Daniel was a perfect 2-for-2 on the afternoon, booting a 45-yard field goal and tying the school record for distance set in 1979 by Cary Starnes. He connected on a game-winning 25-yarder with two seconds remaining in the contest.
For the second week in a row, MC first year players made a big impact. Wesley Idlette earned his second offensive rookie of the week accolade after the Chattanooga native hauled in five passes for 84 yards. Idlette had two third-down receptions on the final drive of the game, helping set up the game-winning field goal.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Yohance Butler made his presence felt, earning defensive rookie of the week honors after recording a solo tackle and five assisted while breaking up a pass and recovering a fumble, his second recovery of the season.
