Blount County Solid Waste Authority and Keep Blount Beautiful are proud to announce the Household Hazardous Waste Collection being held on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at William Blount High School.
The purpose of this event is for citizens to dispose of hazardous waste properly to protect our water, land, and air in Blount County from hazardous waste pollution. The collection and disposal costs for this event are paid by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and from fees collected through Tennessee County Solid Waste Programs.
Citizens may bring any of the following for disposal: paints, herbicides, batteries, household cleaners, pesticides, aerosols, paint strippers/removers and any other hazardous materials in your home. No explosives, medical wastes, business or agricultural wastes or radioactive materials. We will also be collecting certain electronics such as cellular phones, computers, and televisions. For a complete list of accepted materials, please visit www.keepblountbeautiful.org.
“The Household Hazardous Waste collection helps us protect our environment in Blount County by keeping dangerous liquid wastes out of our local landfill. I encourage all citizens to dispose of their waste responsibly by using this collection provided at no cost,” said Sam Holloway, Director of Solid Waste.
Last fall, over 75,000 lbs of waste was collected and diverted from our Blount County water, land and air.
