Greg Davis, executive vice president and chief lending officer at SmartBank, Pigeon Forge, was elected to the board of directors of Areawide Development Corporation at its annual meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Egwani Farms Golf Club in Rockford.
Based in Alcoa, Areawide Development Corporation markets and processes U.S. Small Business Administration Section 504 loans to small businesses in partnership with banks to help finance capital projects. Board members set ADC policy and approve loan applications.
Davis was a bank examiner with the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions before he became a loan review officer with Citizens Bank of Blount County at its Townsend branch in 1996. He became vice president and commercial lender at BankFirst/BB&T in Knoxville in 1998. He earned the Sterling Performer for 2002 BB&T East Tennessee Region Award as the firm’s top commercial lender that year. In early 2003, he became a senior vice president for BB&T and the city executive in Sevier County, responsible for all commercial lending in the county and overseeing four business service officers and five business service assistants. He joined SmartBank in early 2006.
A 1998 University of Tennessee honors graduate, with a major in finance, Davis has also attended numerous banking schools conducted by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and the Tennessee Bankers Association while employed as a bank examiner.
