The cake announced that he was “older than dirt,” and there were plenty of Twinkies on hand when friends who work with Dave Bennett, assistant county mayor, hosted a reception at the Blount County Courthouse to honor him on his 40th birthday.

The Twinkies were in reference to Bennett’s signature dessert and fund raiser for United Way -- Deep Fried Twinkies. He introduced the dessert during the 2007 campaign, which Bennett chaired, and continued the tradition at the Public Service Hamburger Luncheon this year, selling out of the dessert.
