More than 100 people turned out at Sullivans on Oct. 15 to show their support for Charles West in his bid to become a member of the Maryville City School Board.
Friends, family, business associates and supporters came by the restaurant to encourage West and offer thoughts on his candidacy.
Mary Ellen Crawford said West is an intelligent man who will support education. “He grew up in the Maryville school system and went through the system. I think he knows the value of a good education,” she said.
Mark Cate was on hand to show his support. Cate is currently a member of the board but is not running for another term. Cate said the board needed someone who would have a definite passion for the City of Maryville and its school. “Charles is a great person to be on the school board,” Cate said.
Tim Richardson said even though his own children were home-schooled, he still cared about who was elected to the city school board. “What you see happening in schools carries over into employees later,” Richardson said.
West said he was happy with the turnout. “I was really surprised by the good turnout. I was really pleased with the level of support I received,” he said.
