2nd Annual St. Francis Catholic Church Bazaar will be held Saturday, Oct. 18. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Blount County ( a no kill shelter) and fity percent will go to St. Francis Church Chairperson Lisa Brosenne. Blount County Lupus Support Group will meet from 2:15 - 3:45 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, at Blount County Public Library, Dorothy Herron Room A. Review new LFA literature and discussion on Lupus and Depression. The goup will also meet from 2:15 - 3:45 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16 at Blount County Public Library, Dorothy Herron Room A. Guest speaker will be Dr. Walter Farcas, retired UTK professor of biochemistry, Topic will be Stem Cell Research and Lupus. This meeting is open to the public.

The American Association of University Women Maryville Branch will have a general meeting on at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at Maryville College, Bartlett Hall, room 101. The guest speaker is Dr. Rebecca Lucas, Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Maryville College. Her topic will be gender equity in education. The Maryville Board of Education will meet in regular session at Foothills Elementary on Monday, Oct. 20. A work session will begin at 6 p.m. in the library at the school. The board will use that time to consider recommendations from the Strategic Planning Steering Committee regarding district goals. The recommended goals will be published for public review at least one week prior to the meeting on the district website or by calling Sharon Anglim in the district office at 865-982-7121. Anyone interested in commenting on the goals will be given time during the work session. The regular meeting will start at 7 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public.

Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church Women of Townsend will hold their annual Apple Festival on Thursday, Oct. 23. There will be crafts and rumage sale from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. A steak or turkey dinner will be served from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and again from 5 - 7 p.m. Cost for dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children. A vegetable plate will be available for $8. All meals include drink and dessert. Money raised will help fund the group’s mission projects.

A progressive dinner hosted by Good Neighbors of Blount Co will be from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, at First United Methodist Church, Alcoa, 617 Gilbert Street. Manna From Heaven-food box distribution -- Dixie Iron Riders present a treasure hunt ride(motorcycle ride) on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Big Daddy’s Sports Bar & Grill. Maryville’s Weight Loss Surgery support group -- meets at 10 a.m., the second Saturday of each month, at Pellissippi State College Library in Maryville. The purpose of this group is for those who are considering gastric surgery, Bypass or Band, for weight loss. Questions and answers from people who have gone through the procedure. The Joshua Resource Center -- is enrolling participants for the New Beginnings CWJC program. Women who may feel isolated, alone and without hope will find a safe place to refocus, be trained in a variety of life skills, work skills and experience the love of Christ.
