The word means “sweet” in Italian and the owners of Dolce’s Bakery in Maryville Center Square treated customers at their ribbon cutting to treats that lived up to their namesake.
Located at the corner of High and Washington streets, Dolce’s celebrated their grand opening on Nov. 13 with a ribbon cutting attended by members of the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, Maryville Mayor Joe Swann, Blount County Assistant Mayor Dave Bennett and other dignitaries.
Bill Marrison, chair-elect of the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, said he appreciated all the Chamber members for coming out to greet the new storeowner. “I know you’re going to be successful,” Marrison told mother and daughter owners Fran and Angie Marek.
Mayor Joe Swann echoed Marrison’s predictions “It’s a good new business location. We know you are going to be a success,” he said.
Fran Marek said she remembered going to the bakery when she was a little girl in New York City. “I wanted to introduce Maryville to a taste of a New York bakery,” she said. The bakery looks to be a family affair, with Fran and daughter Angie as owners, granddaughters Cookie Oswald and Mariah Marek helping with the customers and daughter Emily Oswarld baking the specialty cakes.
